Manufacturing processes are energy intensive and process performance dependent on several different variables. IOTEM has several years experience monitoring and analysing power an energy in manufacturing processes. Through characterization, monitoring and process understanding, power mapping and management have been used to reduce overhead costs, reduce maintenance, create predictive tools and develop effective energy management strategies.

agriculture and agri-systems
IOTEM is leading machine-learning projects in aquaponic and hydroponic agricultural systems. Using real-time system monitoring and vision technology, IOTEM is working with its partners to optimize aquaponics farming systems and develop modular hydroponic systems.

IOTEM is also mapping out Industry 4.0 technologies for small and low-income farms to map and communicate agricultural data, agricultural system health, engage policy makers, and improve profitability and sustainability of farming.
tools, education and partnerships
IOTEM works with the Advanced Machining Laboratory at the University of New Brunswick and Learning Factory at McMaster University. We are also working with McMaster University to develop a Completion Program in Advanced Manufacturing and Industry 4.0. We work with several leading researchers and companies in the areas of manufacturing, Industry 4.0 and sustainability.
